Life cross-roads

BY ANONYMOUS·

In Marvel, every turn, every decision causes a branching timeline. In my life, this decision came after 2 wars and 5 years in the military.

All of my life, I wanted to be an infantryman, to be in the front lines and lead the charge. Except when I got in, they didn't allow me to do it; they didn't have any vacancies.

The pulse of time split at that second, when I was in that small room and the retention officer slid a paper in front of me. A fresh slate. I could finally be an infantryman.

My choice was not to. My fate moved in a different direction.

Somewhere in the multiverse is another version of me that did sign the paper, stayed in the army. What happened to his life? Did he die in war? Did he retire? We will never know.

Have you had a fork in the road of life?

We can only wonder how things might have turned out, but to avoid hitting a dead end, it is best to simply move on with life.
