She Predicted My Wife and Kids for the Price of a Bus Ticket

I was sixteen, and my girlfriend had just broken up with me.

I didn't know what to do with myself, so I ended up at a bus stop outside a shopping mall, waiting for a bus home. In my pocket was the only money I had: bus fare my parents had given me.

A woman came up to me.

"Want me to tell your fortune?"

"No," I said.

And then I gave her my hand anyway.

I still can't explain that part.

She looked at my palm and told me there would be another girl. And two children.

I was sixteen and heartbroken, and I was completely mesmerized. It felt like she was telling me the pain wouldn't last forever.

Then I gave her my money. My last money. The bus fare.

I don't remember deciding to do it. I only remember realizing my hand was empty, and that I'd have to get home without a single coin.

Years passed.

I met a girl. She became my wife.

We have two children.

Everything she said came true.

And I still don't understand what happened at that bus stop. Did she really see my future? Or did she just see a lonely sixteen-year-old who would have given anything to hear that he'd be okay?

Maybe both.
